BlindWrite : a quick guide

BlindWrite is a backup copy software to produce a working copy of your existing media. It can be used to backup cd/dvd data and even Blu-ray, music, games, etc.

BlindWrite first extracts the full content of your media ( CD / DVD / BR) and creates an image on your hard drive. Then you can backup these files for later use or immediately create a copy on your blank media.

Blindwrite IS NOT intended for making DVD Video backups. If you need an application to backup your movie collection ( respecting fair use ), You should download one of selected applications listed on this page :
http://www.vso-software.fr/dvdvideo.php

Also, BlindWrite doesn't care about the content of the cd or dvd and it is not designed to create a cd or dvd from your files, but only from an image of the full media. If you need a product for your general burning uses, take a look at CopyToDVD from : http://www.vso-software.fr Why there are 3 buttons Copy, Read and Write ?

There are 3 option buttons :
Copy : automatically reads the content of your media to the hard drive and then writes to blank media Read : only extracts an image of the disc to the hard drive Write : writes an image stored on the local hard drive to your blank media

The purpose of Blindwrite is to Copy/Paste the media you want to backup.
Therefore, it needs to extract both data and physical information from the media to produce the closest copy technically possible with your hardware.
To extract this physical information, the internal format (.B5T), is required. If you are an expert and understand what is involved in the use of the .ISO format, you may consider using this option for a highly compatible image extraction. BUT be aware that some copies ( games for example ) may not work with this profile and format of storage.
The 3rd options allows you to have precise fine control of your backups.
Extract an image and keep it on your hard drive for further reproduction, or simply to use it as a virtual tool ( see www.vso-software.fr )

How to use profiles:
Profiles are preset files to customize certain options. If you are not sure about which one to use, select Automatic. If you experience errors ( topologic extraction ), please select another profile, or contact our support department and attach your log file for assistance.

Automatic : A deep analysis is applied to your media when you're not sure which method to use and.
Normal : A regular cd image is created from the data.
ISO : A highly compatible format which can be used by most recording software and virtual drive tools.

Others Settings and information.

Settings : some settings are available to fine tune the process, but most of operation is now completely automatic.
You can easily find more profiles or tools to extend BlindWrite on the Internet Your image files are stored by default to this directory: My documents/blindwrite.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q : What do I do if the message "copy protected" is displayed?
A : This happens often with dvd video because it's forbidden to break the encryption in most countries. Unless you're a citizen of countries where this is allowed, you can't backup these DVD's using the standard profiles.
You should look at these specialized products :
http://www.vso-software.fr/dvdvideo.php

Q : The extraction process is SOOOO slow !
A : Some CD's contain bad sectors ( sometimes on purpose ), and the hardware used can make a big difference. There is no rules, but most of time the slow read will occur on the beginning part of the media. Once about 5% percent of the media is extracted the speed should resume to normal... so patience. Or try with using different cd-dvd readers/writers to find one which manages the errors most easily.
